Must Have Apps

Barcode Reader is a great one. If you use multiple messenger apps then something like Trillian or eBuddy are great. If you shop or sell there, eBay's official app is great to have. There's also the Amazon app and a few other shopping apps.

Newegg comes to mind. Don't know how you being in Canada would affect things, though.

I prefer IM+
Has msn, facebook etc
AND skype, < most others have removed skype

Thanks for the replys guys I just ordered my phone today decided to go with the Evo 4G over the E3D and Photon because with rebates, etc the phone was prety much free. Should be getting it some time next week.

There really is no set guidline of apps to get for an android device. There are however some that you don't need. A task killer is one, antivirus (for right now) is another, and imo one that "saves" you battery life. There are others I just can not think of them at this time.

Why do you say "for right now"? And are there no benefits to a task killer widget (kill all background running apps with a simple one-click)? I understand the phone manages these as needed. Is the only reason not to use the widget because it uses a little extra battery?

It uses a lot of extra battery. The only need for a task killer is for the rear instances that an app is not responding properly and nothing else can shut it off. Since the release of the first android device until now I have NEVER needed a task killer.
The antivirus is another battery hog. What I mean at this time is, Google maintains the android market well. If you only download from the market and do not turn on third party apps you will not need an av.
However, in time someone will try and create some virus to infect android phones and slip it past Google. However, they better pack a lunch because Google is on any attempts rather quickly.

I gotcha. Killer is gone. What about Lookout's lost device feature? Is there another app for just that - you never know? As far as battery, I'm always next to a plugged in charger, though it's probably not good to always be plugged in.
