    Audio (sound wave) behavior

    Hi all,

Happy to post the first thread here - I just noticed something today that i
actually already knew but forgot about...i was watching a youtube vid on my d2g
and i laid it on the table while watching. the audio sounded really good to my ears.
then i picked it up while it was still going to move to another room, and i noticed
the audio quality dropped slightly. the d2g has a fair sized speaker and i've seen where
in posts some like it and some don't (the speaker is in the rear of the phone)
Anyhow, bouncing the audio off a hard surface seems to help the audio quality as
far as i can notice... Now isn't that interesting ?

    r, john

I cup my hand around my speaker when in noisy situations. Instead of the sound shooting straight out of the back it echoes some of it forward.

My phone is like that too... Try setting it on top of an empty cup so the sound will reverb. Different cups make it sound different.

Probably because you're removing some of the sibilance of voices and sharp cut off of the hard edge limiting today's music producers are so fond of.

Adds a kind of warmth to the music I would guess. Then again I'm totally just rambling -- it could be 100 other things too heh.

It's called "loading" a speaker. Spatial loading. High frequencies really don't matter but the midrange and bass frequencies need something to bounce off of.

    He gets that a lot.

You have just discovered why subwoofers need a box -- and why it's so hard to "tune" the port on most of them.
