    password protect usb storage

if my tablet is locked, and i connect it to my computer i am able to turn on usb storag and gain access to all files and folders without unlocking the device.

Obviously, thieves can do the same.

How can i require my device to be unlocked before allowing access to storage over usb?

Why isnt this the default setting?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry - I didn't see your thread before. To prevent a PC to gain access to your files without confirmation, turn off the MTP device. Which Android version are you on? If this option is set by default, I'm assuming you're on Android Jelly Bean? Then go to "Storage", then press Menu and choose "USB computer connection". Choose "Mass Storage", make sure Media device (MTP) is not selected.

    I'm using Android 4.04.

Currently, MTP is not turned on.

Mass Storage is turned on. Should I turn it off?

If Mass Storage is turned on, then Android should prompt an option in the notification drawer whether to turn the storage on or not. You cannot access the notification drawer before unlocking the phone. So your PC shouldn't be able to access your files. MTP is when Android shares the storage automatically. Try to reset the option and try plugging the USB cable again.

The notification is not in the notification drawer; it is in the middle of the screen, and I do not have to unlock the device to turn on USB mass storage.

Is your ROM stock or custom? It shouldn't pass the lock screen. There should be an option to disable it at all, I'm not exactly sure where as I haven't used ICS for almost a year. But it should be in the same place.

I assume the ROM is stock - it's a factory refurbished model.

I checked both Storage and Security and found no option to enable security on USB mass storage.

Click More on Wireless and Network. It should be there on ICS.
