Can't Update to Jelly Bean 4.3 on Galaxy Nexus
Help, I'm unable to update my OS to 4.3 I unlocked my bootloader back with just 4.01 ICS and I've been downloading the new versions as they come from XDA. I have not been able to use the OTA updates as they come to my phone since I unlocked and now i can't even get it to work with the download from XDA. I am currently running google/takju/maguro:4.2.2/ JDQ39/573038: PLEASE HELP

Dac, if you rooted your Nexus, and installed a Custom Recovery, there is no way the phone will accept an OTA update - no way at all. Depending on your exact setup right now, and the phone's model number and carrier, you may be able to pull off returning to the factory rom and factory recovery system - then try again for an OTA update. I you do, and you're successful, you probably won't be able to re-root the phone and go back to using custom roms (at least, not at first). The updating process generally destroys root as part of it's process. I'm not a technician so I cant really advise you on how that all works.
In a general sense, you need to decide if you're going to remain Stock, and accept OTA updates, or use custom roms. If it's the latter, you need to avoid OTA updates like they were the plague. If you return to stock and accept the update, you might be stuck with whatever it contains - but if that's your choice, stay with it. It's highly impractical (even if it's possible) to go through all of the effort to root the phone, install a custom recovery and a custom rom, and then try to go back to a stock setup for a new update, Better to chose ONE, and stay with it
GSM Galaxy Note 3 (Black) - Straight Stock
GSM Galaxy Note 2 (Titanium) - Rooted running Jedi X20 Rom
GSM Galaxy Nexus (Black) - Straight Stock
GSM Samsung Galaxy S3 (Red) - Rooted running Deadly Venom v8.0.1 Rom
To add to UltraDroid's post, returning to stock setup will not lock your bootloader and to be able to receive OTA updates, your bootloader has to be locked, which is quite a frustration to do everything.
Custom ROMs are basically your best option now (unless you want to go through all the frustration to lock your bootloader), what's exactly the problem why you can't flash ROMs from XDA? There should definitely be 4.3 based ROMs for your GN.

Thanks guys for the quick reply. I would like to stay rooted. The whole idea of a nexus device is to get the latest OS which has not been a problem until now when I download what I think is the correct file from XDA it gives a error and won't install. But the file I am looking does not have instructions. HELP
