Newbie to the Android World Says Hi

I'm new to the android world and don't mind saying that I need a few pointers...

My computer background starts with mainframes in the IBM 1401 era and data entry was via card punch and magnetic tape.
My first home computer was 16 K of core, a 2.5 MB hard drive and ran on 220 volts...
My first email address was assigned in 1978.
My 5th was an IBM PC 5150 (pre XT) in 1981.

Anyway, to bring things on topic, I am moving from a Moto Razr V3X and a Palm Pilot to
a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0.4, and am wondering how to :

    1) get the phone numbers CSV file from my old phone into the Samsung
    2) get the data (probably a CSV but I've not looked yet) from my Garmin Nuvi 350 into the new Samsung
    3) get my contacts list from my Palm Pilot CSV file into the Samsung

    4) how to get the "maps" Live Wallpaper to work. It keeps dying...
    5) how to view plain text files on the Samsung.
The "Memos" function of the Palm Pilot is indespensable in what I do.
    5) how to view PDF files on the Samsung
    6) how to move the "to do" list from the Palm Pilot to the Samsung

I'm sure I'll have more questions but this is a start.

And why am I only now going to something newer than an old flip phone and a Palm Pilot?
Lack of cash flow. I'm disabled, got screwed over by the system and am on a very low
fixed income. The Samsung was a hand-me-down from a friend. He went to an iPhone 5.

You know you are crazy when the software development computer is a 64 K CPM with
four 8" floppies, a 2MB ramdrive and a 10MB hard drive... the printer is a Laserjet with
24MB of RAM and the "dumb terminal" is an XP system with a Gig of ram and a 1 TB
hard drive.... The Laserjet had over 300x the RAM that the computer did... and the
terminal had a few orders of magnitude more than that.
