Cool [HOW TO] Optimize Battery Life

    How to Optimize Battery Life

    • Purchase an Extended Battery
      • If one is available for your particular device, its easiest way to increase the life of your battery so you can use it longer without having to rush to outlet.

    • Properly Calibrate your Battery
      • Your battery level indicator could be displaying incorrect information if you do not properly calibrate your device;
        • Charge your device to 100% (preferably while its off)
        • Unplug From Charger & Clear Battery Stats
        • Let Phone Fully Discharge
        • Recharge & Resume Regular Usage

    • Reduce/Remove Bloatware
      • If there are any apps on your device that you do not need yet run actively in memory, then you should remove them from your device entirely.

    • Reduce/Remove Blur & Replace with AOSP
      • While some Blur elements are nice they are not fully optimized for minimal battery consumption the way AOSP apps are. If you can get the same functionality you require and replace Blur elements with AOSP apps instead, you will notice a significant boost in both performance and battery life.

    • Fetch/Sync Data Less Frequently
      • Many system apps, user apps, and widgets actively fetch/sync data from servers; these processes run actively in memory therefore consume battery. Taking control over how frequently your device fetches/syncs data is a very effective tactic towards increasing battery life. Always check the settings for your widgets/apps that transfer data to/from servers and determine weather or not you can change how frequently they do so. For some apps, like email for instance, you might want to set them to constantly sync with the servers; whereas other processes, like news/weather widgets, you might only want them to update at certain time intervals.

    • Make Educated App Selections
      • Careful app selection is the best preemptive measure you take to prevent downloading a rouge/defective app. Always review the comments and app rating before downloading. Also try and look for apps that serve multiple functions; if you can replace three apps with one, then that's a great app.

    • Undervolt Your Device
      • Lower the amount of power your device draws from the battery while still remaining stable. This is a great way to improve the overall battery life.

    • Lower Display Brightness
      • Emitting bright light from your screen display rapidly consumes battery. The screen display is the primary battery drainer on all android devices. Reducing the display brightness or simply setting it to auto is a great way to conserve battery power.

    • Use Wifi Rather Than 3G Network
      • Wifi consumes less battery than 3G data usage; if Wifi is available, turn off 3G and utilize Wifi instead.

Please post any comments or suggestions you have to improve these guidelines.

    No problem Squirleyg & Ubermicro13

My post could still be a lot more informative, and provide actual instructions on how to do all those things I mentioned. Things I plan on including:

*Pre-made Tasker profiles to automate tasks that will improve battery life
*Information on Task Killers and why you shouldn't use them
*More info on preemptively determining if an app will drain your battery or not before downloading it
*How GPS drains battery when being used
*Using DroidWall to effectively control your data usage/syncing
    *Smart Widget selection
*Criteria to look for in ROM selection
*Testing and re-planning for better performance
*Using 'Fix Permissions' in ROM manager
*How to optimize quick access to needed controls

    and much more.

If anyone else has things they think I am forgetting or might help in any way please post them. This is a work in progress, and I would like to make it as helpful as possible.

I'm VERY interested in the Tasker profiles. I am so lost on that app still and I've had it since October
