    Replacing Comcast with a Driod

I'm sick of Comcast and I'm looking to try out an alternative. My plan is to dump them, get a smart phone and use its wifi tethering to power my laptop and PC. Then between Hulu and Netfix I won't need cable. Has anyone tried this? I don't have a smart phone yet so I'm not sure how feasable / cost effective this is to pull off.

Cost effective? I'd expect not very. Most 'unlimited' data plans will still throttle your use over 5Gb/mo.

And tethering isn't fast so your internet would be slow

3G is all I have. Speed does not get throttled if you hack it. I burn 15-20GB a month. I would love to have a comcast connection again as 3G speeds blow compared to a "real" high speed connection.

IMHO Comcast rules over 3g....And if you have the right package blows 4g out of the water too....

Id suggest sticking with Comcast. I have it and thought the same as you, tried it before getting rid of them and changed my mind. You do same a little but not worth the slow speeds.

It's doable for the casual, email, web surfing person, but to stream video esp as your only source is not realistic. It would be feasible to dump the TV service from comcast, but keep the high speed and use hulu and netflix. jm2c

I did exactly this for 2 months during a recent move. While it works, watching Netflix etc is very inconsistent and timed out frequently on my laptop. Very frustrating. So back to Comcast I went...

    Bologna on the inneffective part.....

I have used 3g as my main inet for 10 months.... I do not get throttled back. At first...I used easy teather. Now I use wireless wifi.

I save 50//month. Im the only one using the inet though....im a bachelor, no roommates, just me. Ideal situation for inet.
    I surf the net
    Stream movies
    Download music.... im good
