    Weird battery

I listen to music while I shower in the morning than I put my phone back on the charger for the day. Sometimes its still at 100% and sometimes 88%. Why so diverse?

Are you streaming music or listening to MP3s?

Streaming will take more juice because of the WiFi/3G antenna getting hit so hard. Signal strength, length of shower, etc, will all have an impact, too.

Do you leave your phone on the charger all night, every night?

Have you tried a battery calibration? When percentages vary that much with the same type of usage, then its usually one of these two things:

1.) Your battery is reaching the end of its charge/discharge cycle life or...
2.) Your battery calibration stats are screwed up.

+1 batteries do have a life cycle and start to lose their capacitance after awhile, but it could just be the "battery stats" which a log file contained in your system that helps to determine the battery % based on historical values. If your battery never makes it low on the scale because of being on the charger too often (for instance if the cycle length was from 100%-30%), it can cause issues with your calibration -- meaning the battery "thinks" it has less battery than it actually does.

If the battery is reaching the end of its life cycle, a new one is in order.

Conversely, if it's just a calibration issue, deleting the battery stats log file is easy if you are rooted.

Before you do delete them though, charge it to 100%. Then while still on the charger, delete the stats file then turn completely off then back on. Now don't place it back on charge till it literally turns itself off from low battery. Then charge back to 100%.

With that done, you've reset your battery stats AND given it an initial calibration.

+1 this is the procedure you want to follow to calibrate your battery meter, but (since I wasn't sure if you were rooted or not) I didn't want to give you a procedure you couldn't complete. To sum up (if you're rooted):

    - charge to 100%
    - delete battery stats log file
    - charge back to 100%
    - let phone die until it cuts off (do not charge or reboot, including connecting via USB)
    - re-charge to 100%
    - DONE!

If you're not rooted, however, I don't believe there is a way to do this since the log file is in the R/O memory.
