Will Chrome OS be Android for the desktop?

I got to thinking today that Chrome OS is very similar to Android -- No, not in the sense you think, but more in the sense of how it began. Quite rough around the edges, and as something that you would say "only geeks are interested in it" -- but after time, it became a legitimate competitor. Now, an entire phone ecosystem has grown around it, and the consumer has plenty of hardware choice and competition keeping pricing down.

I think Chrome OS could end up being very similar. It's a bit rough now, but Google is now putting a ton of effort into it, and it's not like they are starting from scratch.

So, I'm excited to see all the news come out regarding Chrome OS and the Chromebook lately....

Just started learning Ubuntu myself... so far I'm impressed. I left Linux when Gentoo began to piss me off and went to FreeBSD (for our servers) but I'm giving Ubuntu a shot!

Chrome OS is a lot different than Android... Android is an actual platform with an SDK. Chrome OS is basically a bootable browser...LOL. Literally, everything is done inside Chrome. Settings, control panels, music, photos... it's all handled in Chrome.

I didn't particularly care for it myself, but it's been a while since I've tried it. I didn't receive a CR-48 either, but we have one in the labs... It's super nice hardware though.

Linux is ok, Ubuntu is as well, Windows can do everything they can, Mac OSx is also, Imo chrome isn't all it's cracked up to be, and no matter what it all comes back to users preference.
