Verizon blocking Rooted phones from wirelessly tethering for free

So I tried to tether my Droid X rooted with 2.3.3 to my laptop today and as greeted with a message for Verizon asking me to pay $20 more a month for their tethering. I hardly using the tethering feature. Does anyone know any way around this?

I do, but it involves hacking into your Radio firmware so the phone can't differentiate between data that's passing through the phone to another final destination, and the data that's just going to the phone. What are you using to wirelessly tether? And of course there is always the option of actually paying the $20 more for 2 GB of tethering.

    3G Hotspot NVRAM Hack

However I'm not sure if the Latest update to the Droid X alters this firmware, and you have to be REALLY careful, and I would read as much information if you plan on going through with it, as it can make your phone completely unusable on Verizon's network.

I've heard Barnacle Wifi Tether works without causing Verizon's network to pick up on it.
