Am I paying to play apps?

Hi all, this is all totally new to me, my kids just got me an HTC Wildfire for my birthday on Tesco Mobile PAYG, I've kept my old sim card to avoid changing my number but my credit balance has dropped horrendously in the last week, I've spent about 30 whereas I used to spend 10 a month, my son thinks it may be because when the adverts pop up when I play the games it means I am connected to the internet & therefore paying for the use. Can anyone please help a 54 year old with a very limited knowledge of modern technology, thanks.

Unless you have a package with Internet as part of the deal, it does cost a lot for Internet usage .

Yes. You should contact your carrier and see what you're paying per megabyte. You may want to add internet as it may be significantly cheaper.

Yes unlimited internet is much cheaper in the end (if you use it a lot).

I recommend you take the same plan as i have.

I switched to three (3) from O2, you can keep the same number (pay as you go, not sure about yours worth a check)

    15 quid a month
    300 min
    5000 texts
    and unlimited internet

how ever, if you are reluctunt to get a data plan, the easiest method would be to turn of 3G and 2G (mobile connectivity) in the wireless settings page

Thanks very much everyone, not sure yet what I'll do but your input will definitely help. I had a trial run of loading the Apps onto my SD card instead of the phone but it still cost me, the biggest problem is every time my grandson comes round he wants to play games on grandpa's phone so I think I'll probably end up with a plan as the cheapest option.
    Once again, thanks all.

Moving the apps around on your phone won't save you any money. Try putting the phone in Airplane Mode before giving it to him to play with.

I always put the phone in aeroplane mode before giving it to the kids. It stops those pesky ads from appearing and accidental touching sending them onto websites.

Try putting it in airplane mode before you play any games? Those ads use bandwidth and bandwidth is what you're paying for.
