Task killers aren't a help at all. The only thing they are good for in my opinion is to kill a single app that is acting up. Other than that I would listen to the previous post before me. B-). I hear that juice defender(free) in the market works decently enough. I think its worth a shot if your interested?

the best thing you can do to help save battery on an android device, is pay attention to widgets and apps that constantly update. stuff like facebook and any weather widget. set them to never update, they will automatically update when you launch the app.

Also, make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off when not in use.

Live wallpapers will kill your battery, too. Battery managers can tell you what is using your battery power and some task managers tell which apps are (misbehaving) in the background, which can be handy.

I also heard that if you have something like google maps up and running, that can drain your battery really quickly. Also turn vibrations off.

For battery life there is also a very informative post on XDA about Depth of Discharge for extended batteries.
Worth to give it a look for general use infos.

I have read around, apparently no task killers can compare with extended battery performance. I have battery issues myself, finally bought myself big-muscle-one, I ordered Mugen 3600mAh[HLI-MB855XL] for my Moto; hopefully arrives soon, apparently lasts for couple of days with extremely heavy usage, so i really want to test it now

    JuiceDefender works really well.
I've found the best way to save battery is to limit the apps I install to the ones I use on the go and on a daily basis. Everything else get's installed on my tablet. And if you're rooted and have the option of running a kernel with a battery saving option.
