    What is "Engineering Mode"?

    Hello All,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus which under it's about phone screen has the following written: Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Engineering Mode).

I purchased the phone from a dealer for less than what carriers charge and is unlocked (though I doubt it is factory-unlocked).

If someone could explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it :-)

    Thanks!

Engineering mode should mean that it's totally unlocked. As in there's nothing you can't do to it, software/firmware-wise. Not a great thing for a regular consumer device.

How much did you pay? The GSM version was $400 new directly from Google.

Thanks for your reply. do you mind explaining why it's not a good thing for consumers? I would think it is since vita easily update able and such.

    Thanks

For most consumers who just want something that works it's pointless -- they'll never mess with it. From an OEM/Carrier point of view it's a security risk (even though it's not). It also allows people who have no idea what they're doing to flash ROMs and various other things onto their phone, potentially ruining it.

From an enthusiast's point of view, however, it's about as sweet as a bottle of maple syrup.

Thanks so much for the reply. so the bottom line is someone whose not into tweaking/modifying their phone can just easily use this phone without any limitations right?

I only ask because I'm planning to sell it and want to make sure whoever buys can use it and update easily.

    Thanks

If you're going to sell it then Engineering Mode may be of great benefit in price.
