Ice Cream Sandwich - Different Versions for Different Phones
I recently got a Galaxy S II and upgraded to ICS. I've been noticing in feature videos that what ICS can do on one phone is not the same as other phones. For instance, I was just watching a video of features on a Nexus and it's VERY different from my features. One example is that you can grab an app icon and drag it upwards to an "uninstall" option from the home screen(s). Mine does not have that feature. Another example are the camera features. The video I saw for the Nexus (and touted as an ICS feature, not a NEXUS feature) showed how ICS allows you to take a snapshot WHILE you're taking a video. It also allows you to edit video on the fly (IE create weird facial effects etc).
There are other examples as well. Compared to my version it looks like a completely different OS. My features don't vary THAT greatly from Gingerbread. I'm on 4.0.3 (my phone is SGH-I777)

I had almost the exact same question posted in many forums. One response I got was that the Nexus is a "Pure Google" phone, where as the Samsung Galaxy has Touchwiz' UI overlayed on top. As soon as I ypgraded my phone I was shocked, so many of the cool features I had seen weren't even on it. I'd think the updates would be universal on all phones, but I guess that's not how it works. I'll probably switch over to the One X soon.

If you have ICS, try the Atom launcher. It's much closer to vanilla Android than Touchwiz. That feature you mentioned is in it -- I used it today myself.

It's a launcher replacement. Basically it changes how your phone works and reacts. Give it a try and if you don't like it, uninstall it. It's free in the Play Store.

Uninstall and reinstall. ICS handles things differently and Swype needs an upgrade.
