Sony Officially Unveils The Xperia Z1 (codenamed Honami)

Sony just debuted their new Xperia Z1 flagship device at their pre-IFA press event. Could Sony's new "hero" device help the company rise to become a stronger competitor in the mobile world? Read on to find out...

    Here's what we know:
    • 5-inch 1980 x 1080 Triluminous HD
    • Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor
    • Adreno 330 GPU
    • 2GB RAM
    • 20.7MP rear camera
    • 16GB storage
    • MicroSD support
    • 3,000 mAh battery
    • NFC
    • Android 4.2.2
    • Optional attachable full camera QX lenses
    • IP55/IP58 rating water and dust proof (resistant)
    • Size: 144 x 74 x 8.5mm
    • Weight: 170g

Sony also shared several other innovations contained within the new phone. It looks like the Japanese tech company focused heavily on the camera this go around. Their new tech goes well beyond just the amazing 20.7 MegaPixels. For example the CMOS camera sensor is 1/2.3" and goes hand in hand with Sony's "G" lens. This uses a 27mm wide-angle glass and F2.0 aperture. This basically means the phone should take exceptional low-light pictures. In addition to this, Sony shared they are using their own hi-tech image processor. They call it "BIONZ".

Additionally, Sony is also touting several software features to go along with all this fancy new hardware. These include visual search, augmented reality, and various social add-ons, including something called "The Social One" software, which lets you perform live video streaming to Facebook.

It's hard to argue with specs like this. This new device from Sony seems to trump just about everything else out there. It has high-end internals, a spectacular camera, and MicroSD support. It is even water-proof to help protect your amazing investment. The phone will launch sometime in September. Now, if we can only get all the U.S. carriers to bring it to market...

We still don't know where the phone will be coming, other than we know it will be going to European and Asian markets first. We will update you guys when we get further details on that.

What the Xperia Z has it's able to sync effortlessly and should allow a unique experience. Also works well on Sony Bravia tv's.

Thing is - the camera on one of my phones is not all that important in the overall scheme of things. Yeah, it's nice to have but the other aspects of the phone far outweigh the camera IMO.
