My xoom goggles have always been off!! LOL I held out on picking it up for a few days. Honestly right now the price doesn't justify the growing pains we're experiencing with very limited apps, no sd support, no flash support, but I knew that when I bought it. Did I get a steal on it? No, not by any means but this will be a device on par with the OG Droid as far as development and longevity. I kick myself in the lower region on a daily basis for never starting withered the Droid. The Droid was and still is a great platform with legs far beyond any phone coming out now. The X which was the darling 8 months ago is already going to be outdated. So $800 was something I could live (more importantly it was something the wife could live with).

If, on a personal level, the Xoom is a good deal to you then then GOOD!
However, it really SHOULD NOT have been released for at least another couple of weeks while stuff got straightened out, and at the price point it's NEVER going to sell well, especially when stacked up against the iPad.
The Droid is terribly outclassed, true, but is the developer's darling and with good reason! And I agree that the Xoom will see developer support similar to that of the Droid... Except developers can't afford the $800s to get in on the ground floor right now. Catch-22.

This is true. I agree it mightve been rushed to undercut the ipad2 release. It hurts that there is zero support from the big box stores who push anything apple as a necessity. If they cut the price to get more competitive then I wouldn't have sour grapes about it. Its a business. Only those familiar with android see the huge upside to owning the xoom. There will be dev support, but like everything associated with xoom it'll he a matter of patience. Many don't have it but I'll wait as long as needed.

The best part of this rush is the fact that Apple's having problems with production and the iPad 2 will be delayed. Of course, the release date hasn't been officially announced anywhere that I've seen, but even still -- "insiders" have said a possible 3-month delay from the expected original date.

Apple did little to improve on the ipad. It will still outsell any android device because some people are obsessed with apple and its easy to use interface.

PC747 said in another thread "It's good to see an interface so simple a 4 year-old can navigate it." I'm going to carry it one forward and give MAJOR props to Apple for creating an interface FOR 4 year-olds and marketing it to so many adults.

Time to institute a curse jar -- 25 cents for every S-bomb, 50 cents for the F-bomb, and $3 for anything Apple related, unless he's talking about the fruit. :D

So I futzed with a Xoom today at Costco..had a half-hour to kill while tires were mounted.
The short of it: I'm spoiled by my Nook Color! The Long of it: Xoom too big, too heavy, can't comfortably hold it and type with thumbs easily (like portrait mode on Nook). I miss bluetooth and the screen is purdy, but honestly I'd use the Xoom LESS than the Nook if I had both...Nook is easier to carry and stash in the car (neoprene sock) between the seats/console, and light and thin as a feather (okay maybe not a feather, but you get the idea). If I had to watch a 2.5 hour movie, I'd LOVE the first 10 minutes on the Xoom, but would begin to hate holding it...on the Nook, MUCH less so, I could finish the movie (and have done exactly that) without issue. It all comes down to a few features, but mostly form factor: 7 inch tablet is ideal for on-the-go/mobile use, typing comfortably, and overall weight. Perhaps this is why the Galaxy Tab sold/is selling so well.
