Google's Sky Map software has been available since the original T-mobile G1 was released, but now it seems Google is done and is now handing over development to the community. The popular application that allowed you to point your phone to the skies and find constellations is now going open sourced, and that means the world can do with it what they please.

The Google Sky Map team would like to thank all of our users who have taken the time to send us comments over the past 3 years. You tell us that Sky Map has helped you show off your phone, enabled you to see the stars when the urban light pollution or weather obscured them and even find romance!
This software has helped millions of people get dates, and show off their phones, so let's hope it doesn't die here.
