RIM CEO Disses Android Devices, Saying They "are all the same"

CEO Thorsten Heins has just taken over the reigns at RIM and he has not wasted any time insulting the competition. When asked about the incessant articles that suggest RIM should build on Android, Heins recoiled and said "Just take a look where the Android OEMs are. I leave this to you. Take a look at their recent announcements and what you will immediately see is there is just no room for differentiation because they are all the same." Those are some fighting words, and it could be argued that the Waterloo based company should be careful throwing stones while living in their glass house.

Is this a fair assessment or should Thorsten clean up his own backyard first before calling out others?

He is right. However, so is every single iphone, windows phone, and blackberry the same. So his statement is dumb and has no merit.

Agreed. Android is doing the same as everyone else. Creating products to sell. Branding helps do just that. Any consumer can easily tell the difference from Android and BlackBerry, but can they tell the difference between Blackberries or Android? Not unless they already invested in the product or are fans of the company.

That is my point that they all look like any other of their own products. Heck, what is the telltale sign of a blackberry? The qwerty keyboard. An iphone? That recessed circle with the square in it. But, that is how us diehards identify with the products we love. Like I said he is an idiot with a dumb statement that has no merit.
