AT&T May Be Locking the Bootloader on the New HTC One X

In the past, HTC shared that they wanted to help out devs by trying to stick to a "no-locked bootloader" policy. They even released the HTCdev tool to help people unlock the phones. Unfortunately, AT&T may have other plans. Apparently, a report from a dev that has the new phone indicates that his AT&T HTC One X gives the above error when he tries to unlock it. Here's a quote with some more details,

The same 'MID ERROR 160' that I have experienced is also happening to units being delivered to customers today, and has apparently has been present on other AT&T devices in the past. This points to the fact that for whatever reason, the AT&T devices are deliberately not unlockable. We have had confirmation that Rogers One X units (essentially the same hardware) do unlock fine, which does lead us to think that this is not an accident!
If this is the case does it make you have second thoughts about the AT&T HTC One X?

Hmmmmm. Considering I haven't been rooting lately, I'm not sure. But I see AT&T are back to their old tricks. Still going to give it a whirl. To good a phone to not check out.

    Still .....

I'm certainly getting the phone, this coming week, and I'll worry about rooting it down the road. Rooting no longer seems a big thrill for me - a PITA at times and being a pessimist, I'm always waiting for something to go wrong.

Although I haven't experienced the joys of rooting a device yet, I am glad for this reason to bypass the ATT version of the One. Thanks for the heads up.

If you're into modding, I wouldn't be too concerned about a locked bootloader. We have our comrades at XDA Developers Forums to fall back on. They should quickly come up with a way of unlocking the bootloader, thus defeating AT&T's plans - whatever they are.

After checking this phone out there's no way I'm passing this up. I'll survive with no SD slot and encased battery. I use my tablet for all that extra media stuff. as long as PDANet works I'm good
