Android Has Four Times More Global Marketshare than iOS
According to a new report by marketing research firm, IDC, during the second quarter of this year there were four times more Android phones globally than iPhones. The two mobile OS's together make up more than 85% of the global smartphone market. That leaves other manufacturers with a tiny sliver of the pie to share. Here's a quick breakdown of some of the stats from the study,
- Android - 104.8 million units, 68.1% market share (46.9% in the same period last year)
- iOS - 26.0 million units, 16.9% share (18.8% Q2 2011)
- BlackBerry - 7.4 million units, 4.8% share (11.5% Q2 ‘11)
- Symbian - 6.8 million units, 4.4% share (16.9% Q2 ‘11)
- Windows - 5.4 million units, 3.5% share (2.3% Q2 ‘11)
- Linux - 3.5 million units, 2.3% share (3.0% Q2 ‘11)
- Others - 0.1 million units, 0.1% share (0.5% a year earlier)
