Nexus 4 Has LTE Built In After-all

The great guys at iFixit are always quick to tear apart new devices that hit the stores, and this time around they found something interesting after inspecting the Nexus 4’s hardware. Following the opening of the Nexus 4, iFixit was quick to discover that the device has a built-in LTE chip that is not being used. Now, quite a lot of people were disappointed about the fact that the Nexus 4 was launched without LTE capabilities, and this news would make them quite happy. Sadly, we say “would” because the chip in this device is one that can never be used to receive actual service due it lacking other related hardware. Some have speculated that this chip was left in the device because the Optimus G is an LTE device and so it would keep production simpler if they did not remove the chip. Others think it was because Google wanted to make the HSPA+ to LTE possible, with a simple hardware upgrade, once they were ready to launch an LTE Nexus 4. Regardless of all the speculations, it’s interesting to see what the Nexus 4’s got inside.

Just because the chip is there, don't mean you can use it. Still need the antenna and amplifier, plus the base-band and codecs and drivers and need software blah blah blah. Its probably the same main board as the Optimus G which has 4G, and its simply cheaper to run the same main-board.
