Future Android Competitor? The First 'Firefox' Smartphone

Even though this isn't Android related, it is something that could potentially impact Android in the future. Could the phone in the pic above actually give Android some serious competition in the future? Supposedly, the pic is of the new "Firefox" Smartphone developed by Mozilla. We even have some specs to go with it, although they are a bit lackluster:
    • 1GHz Snapdragon processor
    • 512MB of RAM
    • 3 megapixel camera
    • 4GB of internal storage

Of course, higher-end hardware specs do not necessarily make a product better. Perhaps the Mozilla Firefox Mobile OS can do more with less... Regardless, it would take some impressive features and functionality to draw people away from the big dogs of the industry like iOS and Android. It might be interesting to see what develops from this, especially considering that Mozilla has a very open mindset about development, just like Google. Also, more competition in the market is likely a good thing.

Still, it's hard to see this device as much of a threat when other bigger name players like Microsoft and RIM can't seem to get a decent foothold. Share your thoughts.

Yeah, I'm not very impressed. You would think a new player to the smartphone market would put out something with a bit more oomph behind it, in terms of specs. Although competition is good, unless something bigger is released right behind this one, I see it dying off quickly.
Nevertheless, it's interesting to see Firefox jump into the mix of things.

Invest small. Loss small. Maybe they want to test before spending more on higher end hardware. Iono I'll throw this into the "other" percentage for now.

Judging by the specs, it looks like it may be just a messaging phone, rather than a full-fledged "smart" phone. It could be aimed towards people who can't afford a data plan. Although, being designed by a Browser company probably destroys that theory. Just a thought, though.

My understanding is its only a "developer preview" phone... good enough to run some apps and let devs build something small for it... or decide that they don't want to spend they're time devving for it lol
