Last Attempt Before I Call It A Day..

I'm a complete Android novice that is slowly going insane trying to flash/root a Xperia Pro & have tried multiple different utilities/methods that are all supposedly very easy & foolproof.. god knows where I'm going wrong!, but they all seem incredibly convoluted & very easy to screw up to me.. I've had the phone die on me twice (and had to pay to have it brought back to life) whilst following several flash/rooting tutorials.

I would be incredibly grateful to anyone that could take me through the process successfully.. I'm on 2.3.4
