Is this the right place to pray for LTE on the Samsung Galaxy "Function".

My Fascinate has yet to disappoint (I won't comment on the carrier). If the Function turns out to be anything like that, I'll be right there with ya, wicked!

Any gut feelings out there about whether this will have any overseas phone frequencies in it?

It'd be nice to buy one Verizon phone that works over the pond, Europe specifically.

I've hung on to my antique Storm 1, since it worked here and overseas.

yeah, I know it's old. just shows how long I've been waiting for a little LTE Love from Verizon.

Newbie flame suit on!

Time will tell, but my gut feeling is that it won't. You never know, though.

Welcome to the site, BTW!

Regarding the cancelled Samsung press conf slated for May 2-something, I think they were mainly holding it to announce Samsung Galaxy S 3 which is what apple is supposedly really suing samsung over. Anyone else come to this conclusion?

I know benchmarks do not equal real world performance, but man... these are crazy off the charts. I would love to get my hands on one of these.

if verizon is holding up the galaxy s 2 to include bloatware in their roms.. I will be super pissed.

Mujibar
05-25-2011, 10:50 AM
They probably have one in development right now ... but you can bet they'll put their bloat on it. I have yet to see a bloat-free carrier branded phone, regardless of who released it.

Kal-El

yea. I just wish they would tell us something. Some kind of preliminary "concrete" time frame. Why does the US always have to be the last to receive the latest consumer technology??

We get the first iPhone and Motorola phones. If your wanting a Samsung, LG, HTC, or Sharp we wait because their headquarters are in Korea, Taiwan, or Japan. So, unfortunately they sell in those areas first.

BTW Found this here: Samsung Galaxy S2 release date in USA via Verizon, AT&T and Sprint | Most Expected Tech Devices, Products, Gadgets (http://www.expectedtech.com/2011/05/23/samsung-galaxy-s2-release-date-in-usa-via-verizon-att-and-sprint/)
Samsung Galaxy S 2 release dates

Finland: May 25, 2011
Italy: May 25, 2011
Australia: May 26, 2011
Norway: May 26, 2011
France: May 28, 2011
Singapore: May-June 2011
Hong Kong: June 2011
India: June 2011
Japan: June 2011
Philippines: June 2011

Everywhere I look.. I am seeing a Q3 release date.. that means at the earliest, this phone will be out in July and at the latest, Sept. That really sucks if it is true.

I love the specs for the SGS-2 as well, however, by the time my upgrade rolls around, quad cores should be out by then! Oh yeah!!!
:)
....and hopefully the SGS-3!

I wonder if one of the reasons why the function has not been stated for release publicly is b/c of the lawsuit by apple? I think I read somewhere that they are trying to prevent it from coming out in the US and possibly the GS3.

My upgrade is due on August 6th on Verizon. Right now, this phone is at the top of my list.

Found this bit of information of when a cdma version could possibly be out... I don't know exactly what it means for verizon though...4G lte is the variable http://androidspin.com/2011/06/02/as-exlusive-sprint-source-confirms-late-july-release-for-the-samsung-within-galaxy-s-2/

As far as LTE goes for the Samsung Function I believe it will have it. Currently, Verizon has the Droid Charge on LTE. The Droid Charge is a Samsung phone that seems to have better specs than the Galaxy S, but not quite as good as the S2. If it has LTE I don't see why Verizon wouldn't include LTE on the SGS2. The AT&T Samsung Infuse is also comparable to the Droid Charge and it's on AT&T's 4G. However, I know that's not the same as LTE, just food for thought. If I was impatient I'd go with the Charge, but since I have yet to get a smart phone I think I'll exercise a little more patience to experience the best phone (SGS2) as my first. Hopefully a clean Gingerbread or Honeycomb ROM will come out shortly after the Function is released.

I think a looming lawsuit with Apple must be delaying the release. They would already have it out if they could possibly do it. I'm dying to get the phone.

Always takes longer to roll out CDMA handsets. Other than the original GS2, none of the GSM variants are out yet.

Called VZW customer care today. Found out that at least a the Samsung Function is listed as a phone internally at Verizon. No info about release date or anything else. He just said of course the website is where it'll show up first. Then about 5 days before it's released it's up for pre-order. I'm sure many already know this, but for those of you who don't...
