Self study. Grab an Eclipse book and Eclipse software. Then go to android development to learn some things.

Do not take offense but, I suggest Eclipse or Java for dummies. (I buy these books and I write programs). :D

Is official training needed to get a job? I have done tons of self study but most jobs I see listed require a degree.

To get a legal job, you need a degree in IT and knowledge of IT and Android. How old are you and are you in studies?

www.Android.com/ will explain everything. If you're going to use Eclipse, then just read the manuals. E.g. the one Slag It suggested.

I always prefer self studding over trainings. I would also suggest reading Professional Android Application Development by Reto Meier which is a great book or Busy Coders Guide to Android, a lot of people on stackoverflow have suggested it.

I you like self studying, start by any programming language like C, C++ or Java in a simpliest console devoplment.
After that, start coding a graphical android app.
I developed an app in three months without having done it before (I am c++ developer)
Feel free to post on your opinion on my thread:
