if you're digging into AOSP this is what I've been following:
Using Repo and Git | Android Open Source <- super hard to find btw, it took forever to find it on google and I knew what I was looking for :eyeroll:
Also, you're going to need to upgrade your operating system to linux, just sayin.
Also note, most of the above links think you're already doing this, so basically the link I provided is how to set up your dev computer and get the Android Source

I second cush2push in terms of the ccroms.net wiki tutorial. It's what I started with. And get Linux man.

In regards to the Linux stuff, either partition ur harddrive to dual boot or u can do what I did and have separate Harddrives for each. This is only efficient if its easy to swap them out. Make sure you get the 64 bit version though or it won't work for compiling the rom

Def +1 on the Linux... Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit is the best distro I've used to date. with the updated synaptic package mgr it's crazy easy to install IDEs like eclipse without having to compile from source ... consider yourself fortunate!
