Well, how come everytime i set a pic to 960x800 it still expands and distorts? All of you keep saying to set that size and it will work, but it doesnt. I even downloaded a wallpaper package for the evo and it still expands the pics...seems like designer flaw and there should be a fix for it. And im sure there is a way to set wallpapers to individual screens. Obviously its not set up on the phone, im saying it could be in a fix. The evo is an amazing phone but its stupid that we have to struggle with stupid things like our homescreen wallpaper.

How to create a wallpaper from personal pic

How to create a wallpaper from personal pic
    Hi everyone,

This is what I did to get a personal pic to be a wallpaper on the HTC EVO and went through the same pains as everyone on the cropping issue and the pic being too large when done, etc..

This worked for me and very happy to have worked around the issue.

Take a pic and open it in paint(comes with Windows). My pic was 539X800 original and I resized it to 40% or the below pixels:

    horizontal 216
    vertical 320

Paste on microsoft word or somewhere you can center and color the background (if not it will be white)

Use something like printkey(free out there) and select like 1/2 the page and then paste into Paint

This will result in an image with like 804X528

Then save it and load it to the EVO and use as wallpaper with selecting as what it is allowed with the box.

Because the inner image is smaller than the resolution of the area, it will produce a perfect centered image that does not go outside the panel.

You guys know you can drag the corner of that green box to resize it, don't you?
I gave my iPhone to my 5 year old and got an EVO.

    Wallpaper acting funny

New to forums, so bear with me if I do something wrong

So I had a strange thing happen overnight... When I plugged in my Evo before bed, it had my daughter's pic set as the wallpaper. When I picked it up this morning, it had the default HTC bubbles. I went right to the setting to get my pic back on there but it wouldn't change from the bubbles.

I figured out by going through many options, that the only wallpapers that actually register and change on the display are the Live ones. No matter what I choose from HTC or Gallery - it always goes back to the bubbles.

    Any ideas??

You can avoid having to crop by setting an image as wallpaper directly from a web page. If you save it and set it from storage it forces a crop. I call this a bug. Some may call it a feature. Maybe I'll write an app that we can use to do this for us...

hey man, thanks for the info. I was playing with my photoshop tonight and came across this forum , tried your suggestion - works!!!! , but if you have a picture that you want to go through all our screens that will not be usable..this method will only allow us to make 1 correctly sized pic for the main screen and have the rest black or any other single color on both sides - which kind of sucks

Alright guys, I believe I can solve your issue.

Now as a graphic designer and a former printing specialist i'm use to creating documents in photoshop at 300 resolution (dpi) or higher.
And when I transfered my first creation I too had to use the crop box that wouldn't take my entire photo until I experimented and found the issue.

-First make sure your image is 960x800.
-Second make sure your resolution is 72.

Once I made the changes and tried to load the wall paper again. I was able to enlarge the drag box until it took the entire photo.

If you don't have photoshop on your terminal, i'm not sure how to help you.
If you do and your unsure how to do so.

In photoshop go to Image>Image Size.
and change the resolution to 72. Being that you do so, your length and width will reduce accordingly, just reset the length and with back to 960x800.

I hope this helped you out.

    Sam
