One (maybe both) are probably part of the proximity sensor that turns the display off when you place the phone by your ear (to use it as a phone).

One is the proximity sensor and the other is the ambient light sensor.

Brings up an interesting question. How do most of you set the screen brightness? It seems the auto brightness its too bright.

I have mine manually set to 18% for indoor use. I rarely have it over 30% when outdoors. Seems to work well for battery use.

Wrecklass......I keep mine at auto, using most of the battery saving tips at goodandevo website, i can go about 24 hours before a recharge...(no live wallpapers for sure)

The manual points to that area and calls out the earpiece, then points to the center of the metal screen and calls out the proximity sensor, so my guess is those are labeled backwards in the manual.
