    Change device name?

My wife and I both have sync in our trucks and because the default device name is PC36100 and we both have EVO's the Sync systems have an issue deciding which device to connect with.

Is there any way to change the device name of the phone?

Sure. Menu, settings, wireless & networks, bluetooth settings, device name. Hope that helps.

This method fails to change the device name. It changes the Bluetooth Device Name BUT not the name the device goes by for non-Bluetooth purposes.

After changing the Bluetooth device name, you can install several different applications (e.g. BatteryWatch) that display system information. The device name returned by the system is still PC36100.

I have three HTC EVO 4G in the family and have the same problem on all three of them.

If it DOES change the bluetooth device name, then what conflict are you having that is caused by the base device name? The OP was trying to solve a bluetooth problem, and I assume that Jak's solution did that.
I gave my iPhone to my 5 year old and got an EVO.

I thought HTC Sync uses more than Bluetooth. I started reading this thread with the husband and wife having an HTC Sync issue (I'm suspecting on the same computer). Personally, I'm seeing the same name on all devices even after changing the Bluetooth name for various applications, including Kindle, BatteryWatch, etc.
