Sprint 4G in New York City!!!

Just wanted to Put this thread out....Guys, Sprints 4G is working and currently running in New York City. Those who live in Manhattan and Have Evo 4G's or Epic 4G's should try turning it on. It works and is efficient. I have fully tested running flash video's from youtube, to anime's, and to Porn....lol. Its fast. And even connected my Evo 4G to my PS3 Via Wifi tether and downloaded a 39Mb update.

Those of us across the river in NJ, in the cities of West New York,Weehawken, Union City, Jersey City and maybe as far down as Bayonne can catch a signal. West New York and the cities up the river can probably catch a solid full bars on 4G depending on your location and wether you are facing New York City from one of those sky rise aptmnts. As always the signal is heavily diminished in doors, because this is not a full rollout. I believe this is clearwire recently aquiring the celltowers to run Wimax..

    So enjoy your connections....

Max on a speed test was 8Mb download 1Mb upload. Between 3-5Mb down solidly. And that was 2 bars in doors in an aptmnt. Comment on this thread on your experience

    Just adding some info.

    1. Battery does get eatin up a lil faster on our Devices.
    2. PDanet does work with 4g Connection.
    3. Should you find the signal one day and not the next its because Clearwire and sprint maybe doing some tweaking. It will come back on eventually. Verified this solidly over the past 3 weeks.

Hey Drew i would suggest leaving 4g off and use it only when you need it. 4g loves batteries lol and for everyday use you dont really need it

Could you be a little more specific as to location(s) where you have seen 4G working? I work downtownd and never get 4G, only place I've EVER picked it up was at Coney Island at the Cyclones stadium.

If you are in the downtown area in New York City I cant guarantee you will be getting it. Wimax coverage through all those buildings could be diminishing very heavily to the point you get nothing. All I can say is try up the river by 45th street maybe midtown, around Times Square or closer towards the river facing new jersey. Thats the best Directions I can give to maybe catch a signal. But its coming from the City I know, because the farther I go inland in jersey probably out of the immediate riverside areas im losing signal. Its got to be on one of those towers in Times Square.

You guys should try Sensorly Map Viewer... it has pretty good maps of the area of coverage and has 4G now too.

CPNICHOLS: Thanks man cuz im here guessing like some idiot..lol, n when I download the program and zoom into the Jersey city area its showing 4g Coverage in a huge swath of area. I dont believe this is highly accurate cuz it is showing a coverage area of a radius of 30+ miles, n I have driven out of the area I was catching 4G more westbound n I lose it within 10 miles. Like I said the testing is probably minimal and it seems these guys are not opening up yet on bandwith.

Thanks tho for the map cuz this is going to come in handy.

I live in the Washington, DC area and 4G is unoffically available in many areas. What I've learned is there's no reason to turn on 4G unless you have a bandwidth intensive app running (QIK video chat, large download, streaming video). Once that's complete, then turn off 4G.

If you want a more accurate map of just where 4G "really" is, then go to www.clear.com coverage maps:

Sprint 4G in Jersey City recently disabled?

I have been using Sprint 4G from the marina at the end of Marin reliably for a week at 40% signal strength on an Overdrive. However, two days ago it stopped successfully connecting and has never worked since. It's still at 40%, but it never progresses past "Connecting to 4G".

I am an experienced Overdrive user and have done the usual unplug-and-remove-battery reset, etc., but nothing helps.

I wonder if they shut it down so they can officially start it back up on November 1st?
