I've rooted alot of phones and I have to say, when it comes to ROMs and rooting I hate working with the Atrix. It's a great phone otherwise. My Inspire is awesome though. Plenty of ROMs to choose from and it's easy to change them. Plus rooting has the added bonus of unlocking the phone. Wouldn't trade it....yet....

Renegade, were you aware that the Atrix now has an unlockable bootloader? A guy named Ken Penfield, over on XDA Forums was provided with an engineering version of the upcoming Gingerbread release for the Hong Kong version of the Atrix and inside the file he found a small program to unlock the bootloader. He used this program to unlock the bootloader of the AT&T version of Atrix and released the program on his website - How To: Unlock the Atrix 4G Bootloader - BriefMobile a couple of weeks ago. I used it to unlock my own phone's bootloader. Shortly thereafter, a guy named tenfar released an update to his porting of Clockwork Mod Recovery, for the Atrix, which now is more or less like the CWRecovery versions we have on all the other phones. You no longer have to plug the phone into wall current, just to access android recovery.

I rooted quite awhile back so I used an older version of the Ace hack kit that uses the gold card method. A newer version is out at the XDA Developers website that makes the process a lot faster and easier. The gold card method was pain sometimes because you had to make your SD card into a gold card, which doesn't always work...the SD cards themselves being the issue. Now you just place the gold card image in a folder on your computer. Also you don't have to do terminal commands anymore. The hack kit and instructions are all in one zip folder on XDA. Difficulty on a scale of 1-10 is about a 2.

Renegade, the fact that you have your Inspire on the Straight Talk network, is awesome. How'd you manage that?

Just a side note. The Nokia E71 mentioned in that thread is available at Walmart.com for $170 with free shipping. Use a Discover card and get 5% cash back. Remember.....you HAVE to keep the E71.

By the time I've purchased two phones it's not worth it -- but that's just awesome.

Considering what ATT charges for the same service it really doesn't take that long to get the money back with what you're saving in phone bills. But it probably is worth it more to someone who already has an ATT android phone. You could always get a used android on eBay.

Very good point. I'm locked into a Verizon contract for another few months, but $45 to me would be a lot better than $70ish for a single line with a 19% discount on the voice line.
