That's the build I use. I like it. It shouldn't be taking a full 5 minutes. I might take a little while, but that's extreme. Wait another minute, and if still doing it, and you can't get a response from the trackball, you'll have to pull the battery. Make sure to leave it out more than a couple seconds. Start from scratch, so you know everything's getting straightened out. You're doing it all in the order Tokenpoke said to?

power off phone and reboot into cwm (VOLUME ROCKER UP+CALL BUTTON+POWER)

use your track ball to select (in order) the following commands

    wipe data/ factory reset
    wipe cache

    advanced

    wipe dalvik cache

press the back button (the arrow) on your phone.
under mounts and storage, format following...
    boot
    data
    system
    cache

press the back button (the arrow) on your phone.

    install .zip from sd
    chose zip from sd.
    choose cm7.zip
    choose gapps-cm7.zip

phone will do a bunch of crazy stuff for a few minutes after each .zip is selected

    press back on your phone

    select:
    mounts and storage,
    format sd

    press back on your phone

    select:
    advanced,
    fix permissions

    restart system now.

Haven't even come across or heard of this problem before. I'd say re-install CWM, but you're probably better off installing a newer version. Try installing 3.0.2.4 instead.

Just installed BobZ's rom, but its hanging at the red splash screen. Any idea what could cause that?

Did you do a factory reset before you flashed the ROM?

You probably have a lazy Ascend, as do I, and it can't handle the higher OverClock kernal. Look for the lower OC 672 flash here. http://prepaidandroid.org/index.php?title=Huawei_Ascend

Nope. No point, since the flash wipes out the current ROM anyways.

What a great forum, great answers to questions that I haven't found in phandroid's site, root, install roms, and enjoy your ascends! I'm running cyanogenmod 6, and couldn't reliably find an answer for moving maps to sd, until I came here.
