How to switch basic Android storage

I have the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and my memory was automatically set to memory card. I think this is because my phone had absolutely no internal storage however my friend has what seems to be a newer version of the phone and she has some internal storage which means that her applications automatically download to internal storage and this is slowing her phone down. I have tried as many ways as I can think of to try switch the basic memory storage to sd card but the phone won't let me. I hear there are a few apps that one can download to help deal with this issue but I would rather fix the problem without using the help of an outside source. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this issue without downloading an app? All responses will are welcome!

Welcome. You could probably use ADB commands to move apps but its easiest to use an app called apps2sd to move stuff. If you use widgets, they must be in internal memory

I don't think I use the widgets for any of these programs, but I'm not able to move several to my SD card (on my HTC Google Nexus One) and thus am out of internal memory. Some of these include Maps, Google+, Music, Market, Facebook, Handcent SMS, Swiftkey X, The Weather Channel, Lookout, Google Voice, Pageonce, Twitter, Google Reader, Flashlight, ScoreCenter, Antivirus, Gesture Search, Taskos, etc. That seems like a LOT of apps that will not move to my SD card. Any suggestions? I'm using App 2 SD, which seems to work well, but won't move those apps. Thanks for any suggestions you have!

Swiftkey X should install to the SD card on its own. Lookout you don't need by any stretch of the imagination, any other antivirus program...

Have you tried using the app manager? Are you running the latest version of the firmware for the Nexus 1?
