Hi, I just ordered the Ally today. I don't even have the phone yet!

I've been putting off a Smartphone purchase for a long time, but finally bit the bullet.

Anyway, here is my intro thread!

OK, so far I like the phone. As an 'energy conserver' I find myself digging into the services and turning off stuff I don't want running all the time to conserve battery life.

I am also reading up heavily on various Android phones & the different things offered by the newer Android OS's. Sounds like we need Froyo!

Tried the Navigation App yesterday on the way home from work...seemed to work pretty well.

Yeah, 2.2 will definitely give the Ally a good performance boost.

Ha ha...nice. I got the bullet joke now.

Ok, so here is an update after one month of living with the Ally.

I've done quite a few battery conditioning cycles (whenever I can allow the battery to burn all the way down). That seems to help, and has been standard practice on all my electronic devices over the years.

I also did the #*thing since I was well over 50% on the 50% bug to make sure I could get my "time without signal" ratio down. At work (which I spend entirely too much time) I don't have a real strong signal, but this little tid bit seems to help. At home, I am about 500 yards from the local Verizon tower, so the real world TWS should be zero.

Anyway - loaded a few apps, bought one (Navionics..works GREAT as a backup nautical navigation source) and jam out a lot with Pandora in the car. Oh...and it works OK as a phone too, but the phone controls are actually a little quirky and take some getting used to.

I think I've only had one lock up, and I've had a few widgets crash that require re-installing if I let the phone run all the way down until it shuts off.

Gotta go do some more digging around in the forums for other fun.

    Thanks!

    -Shawn
