    Start here

I currently use Velocity 0.3 with the GNM Turbo 4 kernel, no overclocking set - 426 in Quadrant, 6.8 MFLOPS in Linpack.

    ?

Some good stuff there. One question...if I install a new ROM do I lose all my existing APPS that I downloaded or any other information for that matter?

Yes; I'd back up anything you want to keep, as part of the ROM installation process involves wiping pretty much everything on the phone. If you use app2sd, back up your card; the partitioning software in ClockworkMod or the AmonRa recovery modes are 'destructive', meaning they wipe your SD card.

Before you actually flash a new ROM but after you get a custom recovery on, I'd suggest making a nandroid backup of your phone - this copies everything on it, including the OS, to a file making it possible to restore your phone if something goes wrong. Going back to stock recovery is fairly trivial, so I don't think you need to worry about using adb fastboot to do this

If you wanted to boost the performance :| Why don't you root it even tho rooting does void your warranty . you can get velocity 0.3 CPU Settings And Rom Manager Those are Key to Boosting the Performance of it just a bit. And when i mean a bit its "Noticeable" you can tell the boot speed is faster and things load a tad bit faster but then again its your call. here is a link to show you the rooting process Also (Youtube) Plays a big role :3 I have mine clocked to 725 mhz :3 Yay So its Fast to be honest i think its faster then my friends droid :3
