So I bit the bullet, accepted the consequences and rooted my phone. I've got wireless tethering set up--which is fantastic--and I'm debating flashing one of those fancy ROMs floating around. What are some more cool things that I can do now that I couldn't do before? I'm a desktop Linux user, so I particularly like appearance customization, but any little hacks would be great.

Haha! Fantastic! Followed the link and now I'm rocking an awesome looking black scheme--I believe it's based on SenseUI. My phone just became about 1000% more awesome. Thanks for pointing me at that.
you can download a overclocking kernel from savoxis.com and overclock it, uninstall system apps, overclock sdcard read/write speed
