How do I get my Ally to NOT be a phone

Ok, I'm new to this forum, so bear with me. I have had my Ally for a little over a year and have been quite happy with it except paying Verizon the thirty bucks a year for the right to use it. I just cancelled my data package and got a standard phone. I still want to use my Ally as a bluetooth media player/wifi device without worrying that it will try to look for the 3G network. I've already rooted the phone, but don't know what ROM's to put on it/have the software to flash the phone.



I know I can put it in airplane mode and use it as an mp3 player, but I still want to use my bluetooth headphones, and if its possible use the gps on it.



Any help would be appreciated. I apologize if this has already been answered or if this is a pipedream. Thanks for any help that's offered!

Basically, a deactivated phone that still functions?



I've been told somewhere that the Ally "works like a PDA over WiFi even though it's not connected to Verizon's network." The only way I've done this was to take it off of Verizon's network was to Factory Reset it, and just skip the set up screens upon rebooting. Still works, just that you can't make phone calls. Bluetooth still functions, and the GPS still works (though, unfortunately, you'll need a data connection for that), and if you still need to get on the Internet, the WiFi and data syncing still works.



I know this because I've had to get a replacement Ally after a bout with water, and the old device still functioned even after I received my new handset and put my stuff onto it (and in fact, I'm using my replacement device to type this). I used the WiFi to retrieve notes from my old device before Resetting it and sending it off back to LG.

If you have cancelled and removed your phone from your account, the Ally will not connect to use any data. You can still use the phone as a music player, gps and wifi use. Everything will work besides phone calls, texting (SMS, MMS). I use my Ally on Page Plus prepaid (no data plan required, expensive per megabyte). I have data turned off with froyo. Everything else works on the phone.



If you're rooted properly, I would recommend Velocity 1.1 for a ROM. Lots of info here and help here:

As OneFore9 said, if you're rooted properly, go for that ROM. If not, you might want to follow the guide on androidforums to root it, even if it is on 2.2.2. 2.2.2 is nothing.

All the comments are correct-a-mundo! I have a disconnected Ally right now because I refuse to pay Verizon their overpriced charges and my phone was flashed onto Revol Wireless here in Ohio. It an unlimited everything plan for $55 a month with no contract. Anyways....I just didnt pay my next bill and I still use the phone with my Wifi here at home and use the GPS even when I'm out and about just to use GPSTracker app. (I like to know latitudes,longitudes and all that).
