Hack LG Ally Smartphone to Work with Standard Verizon Prepaid Plan
Ok, crazy idea,
I have an LG Ally but I wanna have a 50 unlimited prepaid plan. Unfortunately your supposed to buy a basic prepaid phone. I was wondering if I can hack my ally to appear as one of those phones and then be able to use it for a prepaid plan without having to buy a new phone. If not, I was wondering if I could unlock it and use it with an at&t prepaid.

I assume youve already tried calling them and asking if you can use that phone on their prepaid plan? Good question though. You wouldn't think they'd mind a long as you're buying their prepaid cards each month.
Welcome to the forum btw!

Im havin the Same problem!
I have been trying to do the exact same thing. I just recently bought an ally from a friend who got an iPhone. I did have the $50 unlimited plan until I moved my number to the new phone. That was about a month ago and been tryin to find a way to unlock it ever since. I've found how to "root" it and I think that would do it. But am not sure if rooting is the same as unlocking as far as being able to use it with any provider.. When I first got the ally I was checking out the apps and everything that first night and 3 days later my phone was out of $. So now Im afraid to do anything with the apps or online; which, the apps ect are kinda the point in havin a smartphone to begin with. I like Verizon as my provider and don't really wanna change, I just think its stupid to have to pay an extra $30 for a data plan that is limited to 1gb when it's called the "unlimited" plan. Have u found out how to yet? If so please let me know.

Hello Blue. I'm afraid if you like Verizon as your provider, you're not going to be able to take your phone to other providers. Well maybe Sprint, but I don't think you can utilize all the features on your phone if you are successful in that move. The reason is very simply that Sprint and Verizon utilize a technology known as CDMA to send their signals. AT&T and T-Mobile (and most of the world) use a different technology called GSM. You have much more flexibility with GSM than you do with a CDMA device. It's just the nature of the beast. Go here - GSM Vs. CDMA - for an in depth discussion of the differences.
