I live in a rural area but my last LG phone would have 2 to 3 bars and good reception. My ally will not work in my house and only gets one bar outside of the house. I read in the manual to not touch the antenna but I can't find the antenna. Does anyone know where the antenna is? Also, the new iphones are using a small piece of duct tape over there antenna to increase their reception, would this help the ally?

Have you tried *228 option 2 yet? This should update your tower list and may increase your bars.

    Not sure about the antenna.

I checked the manual and although it mentions not to touch the antenna or use a phone with a damaged antenna, it does not mention where it is.

I'll bet it's boilerplate stuff they put in every manual so it probably doesn't make sense unless you have an iphone 4 (lol) or an older flip phone with external antenna.....I switched from att due to reception issues with a winmo phone and so far I'm happy with my 50/50 split between urban and rural use....I've only been to one place where I actually lost a call, but besides the cows and a few birds I was the only one around....If it persists you may want to exchange it and see if that helps....

I am seeing a major drop in reception on my LG Ally vs my old Palm Treo 700w. (like a reading of -91 dBm vs -107 dBm). There has got to be something we can do to the phone (and where is its external antenna port?)

(btw I use a powered repeater from my rooftop to my basement, so don't tell me to buy one!)

The Ally does not have an external antenna port. Don't know about repeaters, but folks have mentioned big improvements using the Verizon network extender.
