I remember I used to be able to go to Settings/Call Settings and choose "show/hide phone number," or something like that. Maybe I'm remembering it from my old Blackberry, but I thought I could do this when I first got my LG Ally last summer. The original operating system was Android version 1. Now, when I go to Settings/Call Settings that option is not there. Was this something that happened with the new Android version 2.2.1? Can anyone tell me how to block my own caller ID? I want to be able to toggle it off and on myself, without calling Verizon and making it permanent.

Dial *67 before the number (this should work in most areas), or you can search for an App. However, I have the feeling all an App will do is enter *67 before dialing.
If your service is set to block your number for out-going calls, *82 will remove the block so the person you are calling will see your number.
