Black Screen

I've noticed this is a common issue. but my LG Ally was working perfectly fine until yesterday. Now the Screen is constantly black when i turn the phone on the screen stays black. One solution most people stated was to remove the battery for a while and then eventually re-insert it and it should work fine. Unfortunately it is still not working and I am worried the phone is broken. If anybody knows a different solution it would be greatly appreciated. I know the phone is on because the green notification light comes on so i have a text waiting, but i just cant see it because the screen is not working.

If the phone is on, but the screen won't come on, my guess is one of 3 things:

Backlight is not working (shine a light on the screen aftert hitting a button to see if you can see it)
Screen is disconnected
Screen is broken.

I'm curious - does it ring if you call it?
