Editing & Other Keyboard Shortcuts

Here is a list of keyboard shortcuts you can use on the Ally. They could have come from other Ally sites and/or General Android Tips Pages. However, I have tried and confirmed these shortcuts work for the Ally, and that is really why I am here. Some of these I have found very, very useful and some I had completely forgotten about until I started to compile this. I hope it helps.

EDITING

You can edit texts similarly to editing on a PC. First thing to do is highlight what you want to edit. You can edit using the menu that opens when you hold down the OK button in the center of the directional pad. When nothing is highlighted you will be offered Select All, Select Text, Cut all, Paste and Input Method. If your cursor is at the end of a word, that word will be offered in Add “word” to Dictionary at the bottom of these options. If something is highlighted you will be offered Cut, Copy and Paste instead of the "All" options.

Similarly, your keyboard can use shortcuts like when using a PC. To highlight text hold down Caps and use the directional pad. You can even go up or down to highlight entire lines. Now that you have highlighted texts use the same keys as a PC.



Menu + X will Cut

Menu + C will Copy

Menu + V will Paste.

You can use these in many Apps.

NOTE: You must have highlighted text or copied text on the clipboard for the Menu button to work this way. Otherwise, you will open the Menu for whichever App you are using.

BROWSER

With the default Browser App open these shortcuts will work.

Menu + A will open the Add Bookmarks dialog

Menu + B will open your Bookmarks page

Menu + D will open your Download History

Menu + E will allow you to swipe your finger to select text from a page and add it to the clipboard

Menu + F will open Find on Page dialog

Menu + H will open History

Menu + I will Zoom In

Menu + N will open a New page

Menu + O will Zoom Out

Menu + P will open Page Settings

Menu + R will Reload the page

Menu + S will open the Share dialog

Menu + T will open your list of open windows

Menu + W will close the page

Spacebar will Page Down

Caps + Spacebar will Up Page

NOTE: Spacebar and Caps + Spacebar will work in lots of Apps EVEN THE MARKET!

GMAIL

Same with Gmail. Try these:

C = Compose

L = Go to Label

When An E-mail is Open

A = Reply All

E = Archive

F = Forward

J = Next Message

K = Previous Message

R = Reply
