My folks are in the same boat. They want to upgrade to something new but don't want to spend the money on a data plan they won't use. They love to text and do video messaging with my daughter. Problem being both the Cosmos and Intensity don't do video messaging. So if that is something you are interested in you may be stuck with paying th $9.99 a month. My mom was really disappointed in the phone selection available if you don't want the data plan but want a slide out keyboard for texting. They all seem to be lacking something else she wants to use.

I had the enV Touch for about a year, and as non-smartphones go, it was excellent. Yes, it required the $10 data plan, and that caused me a bit of indigestion, but I got over it. The flip design makes for a much roomier keypad than the Ally's slider design. Overall, a great texting phone, and the data plan let me use navigator, which is essential to me.

By now, though, you've probably already made your purchase(s). Please let us know what you got.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy all of the features offered on the Android platform, but there really is no one-size-fits-all cell phone solution. Thanks for posting -- you created an interesting thread!
