    Your First Opinions on FroYo

So I finally got it going and don't mind it. I like the new design. Its pretty

nice and easier in a lot of areas that I use. As for speed, so far it feels

faster in everything. Even when it just started up it would run like normal,

where when I had 2.1 and would restart it it would be slow the first few

    minutes.

Another thing is games seem better that are more intense. Angry

Birds is one of them. It used to get choppy the first few seconds into a level,

or until the add went away. Just tried it again and its smooth as butter even

    with the add.

So far I like FroYo. i think its the kick in the butt that

    the Ally needs.

I am loving the incoming txt msgs being highlighted in a baby blue background, the 3g mobile hotspot, and moving my apps to sd card. I am having a difficult time with the teensy txt in reg browser and zooming in distorts the entire page so atm still prefer skyfire browser.

Havn't tried the games yet hehe

Youtube's format changed which I need to get used to as the previous youtube format was bigger for easier reading and split the categories nicely, but I do notice the phone behaving much faster overall

not having flash pisses me off

    Update 2/2/2011

    :

I haven't received the OTA but after reading about some buggy issues, I am not sure I want to. I did it manually via LG's site and have had very few issues. I also haven't had to FR for any reason.

I actually prefer the old youtube layout better as it was more intuitive and less buttons to press for what you wanted to see and do. In order to get it even remotely similar to what it used to be, I need to sign into my own channel. A small inconvenience, but hey, we are here to pick these things apart

I do like the new fb layout, the sharper caller screens (green is meh but I can endure it), and the light blue incoming txt msgs is a welcome improvement. I did notice Easy Reminder app not working 100% as it did before, however. Sometimes my light flashes green (txt msg) and other times blue upon receiving a VM msg. I liked it white before as it was more noticeable.

I have also noticed that each time my phone is turned on, my skyfire & angrybirds icons default to android and I need to redrag them to my home screen to get them back to their orig icon.

On 20 May 2010, the 2.2 (Froyo) SDK was released.Changes included:
    • General Android OS speed, memory, and performance optimizations
    • Additional application speed improvements courtesy of JIT implementation
    • Integration of Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine into the Browser application
    • Increased Microsoft Exchange support (security policies, auto-discovery, GAL look-up, calendar synchronization, remote wipe)
    • Improved application launcher with shortcuts to Phone and Browser applications
    • USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality
    • Added an option to disable data access over mobile network
    • Updated Market application with batch and automatic update features
    • Quick switching between multiple keyboard languages and their dictionaries
    • Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
    • Support for numeric and alphanumeric passwords
    • Support for file upload fields in the Browser application
    • Support for installing applications to the expandable memory
    • Adobe Flash 10.1 support
    • Support for extra high DPI screens (320 dpi), such as 4" 720p
    ************************

My understanding is this is the Froyo and includes all of the above.

Interesting enough though, Flash is not included with the update and must be installed seperatley. But if you go to Market and look for it, its not there at all.

I am downloading the .apk someone saved elsewhere to try it.

On that note, I also notice that the market was changed back to the old one. Might be a glitch or might not.

I find it a bit strange. The Motorola Droid has the same speed CPU as the Ally. Both are 600MHz. First i read it needed to be 1GHz to support Flash. Then one said at least a ARM v7. Strange. Who knows.

I think it would work fine TBH. A lot of people said the Ally couldn't handle FroYo because of its CPU yet here we are running FroYo.
