    Cannot Play .mov File

I received an email that had a movie attached to it (a .mov file extension). When I click Preview to play the attachment, I get an error that reads:

    Cannot play video
Sorry, this video cannot be played.

And my only option is to click OK...

What can I do to resolve this? I am not able to save the file to the phone first either... because I've already tried that before posting...

If it has a .mov extension, it more than likely is a Quicktime file. Not sure that the Backflip can play that format. Without seeing the file to be sure though, that's just a guess.

Well, .mov is a container format, like .avi. It's possible that it's actually encoded as an h.263/4 or mpeg-4, but since it won't play on the phone, I'm doubting it.

You might want to try to convert it into a format that is more appropriate for the backflip. Just google "video converter" and there are many free choices.

I don't watch much video on my phone anymore since my laptop has such good battery life so I don't have any recommendations for backflip formatting.

Thank you so much for the replies... Per the above info, I downloaded Meridian and unfortunately got the same error.

Can anyone give me the names of some converter apps I could download from the Market? I can't find handbrake by searching...

The video was sent from an iPhone which a lot of my friends have and it would be ridiculous for me not to be able to view these types of files...

Handbrake is a program you would run on your PC to convert the file. It doesn't run on the phone. I'm not familiar with any Market apps which would convert files from one format to another.

Don't feel bad. You can always send them an ogg.Vorbis or FLAC encoded song and laugh at them when they cannot play it.

Ahh, that would be why I couldn't find it. Well thanks for your help... I just find it shocking that knowing how popular iPhones are that they wouldn't allow for the quicktime format to be played on the Backflip...

Oh well... I still LOVE LOVE LOVE my phone none-the-less!!! :blur:

It most likely is in a proprietary format. Just like Android doesn't play .wma files, regardless of how popular Windows PCs are. Blame your friends for being sheep and not using commonly supported formats.
