Best of luck, if you decide to try it I really hope you could figure it out. The sad thing is that if you buy an HTC phone, you are almost guaranteed to have superb dev support for it... Nearly every HTC phone has been rooted thanks to the efforts of the xda developers. I wish motorola had this support with phones other than the droid.

Has anyone made a custom ROM for this phone? I hope so. I'd like to try it out. I have 2.1 update 1 on my phone currently.

I suggest you try J_rodd's Preclair for the Backflip. It's pretty good!

Hmm after reading that page I think I'll sit tight for a while to see if there will be another update for the backflip. I have 2 years to wait lol (contract length). I don't know my radio version which is essential... And it looks like I could brick my phone. I've seen a ROM update in a video and it looks easy enough but all that giant red text is warding me off. :P ((I'm new to the world of modifying electronics)) And we can't afford a new phone should I brick this one. Although I could go back to my old phone... Glad I have it, in case I do try to update the ROM. haha

Indeed.. When I had my Backflip I was running J_rodd's ROM and it was pretty darn solid. He did a good job of optimizing the software for the hardware.
