Well, I called my friend and he's already sold his BF. He moved on to an HTC Desire.

I have a Telus Backflip. Yes the recent update was OTA. It was more than just 100 people (as someone else mentioned), it was eventually all of Telus Backflip owners. It was just small bugfixes like th ATT one.

In other news, after having the status of "under evaluation" for the longest time, Motorola has now formally given up on all non-US updates to Android 2.x for the Backflip. I see in another thread that people are putting 2.1 onto their rooted Backflips, and I suspect you'll see many non-US people attempting to do that now.

However I would feel much more comfortable experimenting with that if there was a Telus flash file to use in case of the need to revert. I may try your idea of using RSDLite to do a dump of the phone to create an .sbf file... but I'm a newbie at this so it could take a while.

Better late than never. Here's what RSD Lite says when attached to my Telus Backflip:

    Technology: UMTS 3G
    Software Version: Blur_Version.0.13.1145.MB300.TELUS.en.CA
    Flex Version: USAMOTS01TLSNA042.0R
    Bootloader Version: 1446
    DRM Version: N/A
