Yeah, maybe not this year, but its still something to look forward to. Actually, who knows, I may not even want it seeing as if we get 2.1 and a root I will probably just install a custom ROM. At the least, I want my Backflip to not have motosuck and if possible I would like to have sense UI.

Haha. Motosuck... Yeah, the real reason I'm waiting for 2.1 is the hope that it will bring root to the Backflip.

Yeah same but also a custom rom might be nice because it wouldn't have all the crap that the backflip does now.

Just because we get root doesn't mean we'll be able to use custom ROMs. We still have the protected bootloader to have to deal with.

from what skrillax says over at mod my moto our bootloader is not like the milestone or droid x and once we have root access we can load custom recoveries.

Using openhome you can disable the icons for the bloatware. Sure it doesnt uninstall it but atleast its a work around visually.

Don't know where you might have heard that. I've had Froyo on my Nexus One for some time now and have tried both USB tethering and wifi hotspot and they both work great. But of course this is all a moot point as unfortunately I can't imagine the Backflip ever getting 2.2 via "official" channels. I hope I'm wrong for my wife's sake (She LOVES her Backflip but wants to use newer apps that require 2.1).

Well, hopefully we'll be getting 2.1 in the next month or two if Motorola stays on track (latest estimate from them is late Q3/early Q4). Who knows though if we'll ever see an official 2.2. I'm doubtful, would I'd love for them to surprise me.
