    2.2 froyo

Now that we have root....(thank you phone gods!) Is 2.2 possible spec wise,, will our processor and ram be enough to run it smoothly? Or will it be like installing windows 7 on a really old and outdated pc. And is it possible to have froyo with out blur? Any thoughts...

I'm not so sure about getting 2.2 or 2.1

but are these not the certs needed to make the custom roms?

Well it's possible, yes. I'm sure when we get Froyo, it won't be a Motoblur version.

I could be wrong but I don't think it will happen atleast till we get 2.1. Maybe that will be the key to froyo. And I would also prefer blur blured out....

No. Now that the phone is rooted, a ROM can start to be compiled to give us 2.2.

If Froyo can run smoothly on a G1 (dream), then it can run just as good or better on our backflips. It's just going to take some initiative and some studious minds.

well we do have the drivers and keys. now it's a matter of looking into these "hardware issues" motorola refers to.

Froyo is designed with "lower-to-mid range" devices in mind, and should run just fine on the backflip (although I'm still curious about the quality of flash on it.) It is unlikely, however, that we will see an upgrade to "Gingerbread" (3.0) when it is released, as it is being designed for the higher end devices (nexus 1 and beyond.)

Whatever keys are available on the phone are still only public keys, and will not help us any without the matching private keys (never going to happen.) Luckily, those keys are useless outside of the stock motorola environment, and have nothing to do with getting a custom rom working (now that we have root.)

From what I can tell so far, the backflip does not use a signed bootloader, and the stock recovery program checks signatures at install only, not at boot. If you replace the stock recovery with your own, containing your own key (or none at all) then you can install any rom you want. The only real problem is getting everything built for the hardware.
