Hey guys...I completely understand where you're coming from. Hope these links help out!

For Root: [ROOT] All versions of Backflip

For Preclair: [ROM] Preclair v1.0.2 [11.5.10]

Instructions are on both of these pages and everything thing you need should be there. Its pretty simple if you understand the terminology (but thats usually the issue). If you're having problems post on here and i'll do my best to give you a quick response (but i'm not on here everyday). The custom recovery thing should be somewhere in the root instructions...I thnk...been a while since i've done it. There are also step by step painfully literal guides to some of these things too...if I come across em i'll post em here too!

And the guy with the lag issue...I would suggest you root your phone and get j_r0dd's version...much better...also using an app called "SetCPU" helps to boot performance speed and makes the phone MUCH SNAPPIER...but i thnk u can only use it if your phone is rooted....might be a good suggestion if you don't wanna use j_r0dd's version of 2.1...hope this helps

Try this...it helped me a lot when i was trying the adb thingy...just for clarification...you'll hook ur phone up to the computer but don't turn on the USB thing...just plug it in...at the start menu in the search box type in "cmd" and this is where u will enter all these command prompts...follow these instructions on how to set up the adb shell so u can type commands that will effect your android device

i know you have to press charge only, i had to do that to root. i rooted perfectly, and the instructions were clear for that. i just cant seem to understand how to flaash the recovery. i pluged it in, i renamed the file to 'recovery.img', and i opened up command prompt. then i kept getting errors after typing "su"

well try to to it on the handset...I think you have to unzip the recovery image before you place it on the sd card....did you unzip it first? On the handset turn the phone off then power it back on...as soon as u power it back on hold the camera button and the power button at the same time until the phone tells you to release it...then you should have the option to press the volume up/volume down key...press volume down and it should boot into the custom recovery...try this

i unzipped the image, renamed it 'recovery.img' and copied it to my sd card

    it then says to enter:

    adb shell
    su
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

so i do adb shell, but when i put in su, i get this:

    "reloc_library[1244]: 2952 cannot locate '_ZNK7android6Parcel15setDataPositionEj
    '...CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE"

su is asking for "super user" rights... and apparently it's not getting permission. What procedure did you root with?
